Project Evergreen is to visit five U.S. cities in 2019 for the Green Spaces Are Cool Renovation Tour.
As a national non-profit organisation committed to improving community areas, Project Evergreen’s aim is to bring people together to make a difference in how yards, parks and communities can create a greener, healthier and cooler Earth.
This year they will lead teams of volunteers in the cities of Detroit, New York City, Philadelphia and Fort Knox following a successful visit to Phoenix in January. Plans include rejuvenating sports fields and creating space for families to grow fruits and vegetables

Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen said: “Project EverGreen’s renovation projects create healthy local parks and playing fields, by planting grass and trees that improve air-quality allowing urban greenspaces to become the lungs of a city. In addition, we have the experience and expertise to mobilise professionals, corporate volunteers and individuals to quickly and cost-effectively restore urban green spaces for the benefit of all.”
There are many community areas that are neglected or barely usable. The areas are overgrown, bare dirt or have badly turfed surfaces, resulting in an unsafe playing area. The project not only rejuvenates the area but also brings people together. Creating closer communities has also helped to reduce crime and vandalism.
On completion, the yards, gardens and parks will be greener, healthier and more attractive.
Access to green recreation areas has proven to benefit children and adults by reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, reducing negative emotions and improving attention levels. Environmentally the project is beneficial as the air quality is improved and heat build up and soil erosion are reduced as well as the retention of rainfall.
The 2019 tour will expand Evergreen’s legacy, they are proud to have already transformed more than one million square feet in more than 50 communities across the U.S. They are currently seeking for more volunteers to join them, final dates will be available soon.
