Viewers of CNN to explore South West India

Exploring the historical and natural treasures of Karnataka, CNN air Iconic India programmes.

From the snow-covered mountains of the Himalayas in the north to the tropical beaches in the south, India is known for its vibrancy, colour and cuisine.

Attracting many adventurers and conservationists due to the diverse landscape, national parks and coastline much of Karnataka in the south-west remains unexplored.

During May, CNN International are to air their ‘Iconic India’ series to take viewers deep into the region’s hidden locations.

The programmes are to cover Nagarhole National Park, Biligiriranga Hills, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Ramanagara.

Nagarhole National Park

The Nagarhole National Park is said to be one of India’s prime wildlife reserves, it is also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park. It lies in the banks of the Kabini river, surrounding a reservoir with the Irupu Falls nearby. The park is known for its tigers and is also home to elephants, birds, sandalwood and teak trees.

As some of India’s top wildlife lodges are situated in the area which is backed by the Brahamagiri Mountains and part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve this is a popular destination for trekkers.


A popular destination as the states capital it is home to many parks and bikes. Kiran Kumar Raju is a top cyclist, hoping to make cycling a popular sport because of the beautiful scenery that can be found outside the popular cities where a bike is generally a means of transport for commuters.


Known as ‘The City of Palaces’ Mysuru is home to a lot of the royal heritage. With the Taj Mahal being the most visited tourist attraction in India, Mysuru is second. Many people visit this destination for its spirituality, mainly associated with Ashtanga, a style of yoga which is said to be good for the mind, body and general wellbeing.


The city lies 50 kilometres from Bengaluru and is also know as the land of the seven hills. This was the iconic backdrop to the film ‘A Passage to India’ due to its rocky granite. The area is popular for rock climbing and other adventure related sports.

The Biligiriranga Hills

The B R Hills are in the south-east of Karnataka. Home to the Soliga tribe whose traditions are deeply rooted within the forest the area is known for producing eco-friendly coffee.   

‘Iconic India’ has been produced by CNN Vision, the global production powerhouse of CNN International. Four 30-minute special programmes can be seen between Saturday 11th May and Wednesday 15th May.
