More than one hundred experiences are now available virtually as initiative is set up to support tourism companies.
The #RoamfromHome tours scheme has been set up by TripAdvisor company Viator as a way for guides and hosts to offer their tours and experiences virtually. There are more than 100 free and paid activities included in the scheme with 80% of them currently being provided by small businesses.
Giving the virtual experiences a dedicated area on the Viator site, the company is not charging any commission to the operators participating. Not only will operators receive all proceeds, faster and more frequent payment methods have been introduced.
Ben Drew, President of Viator said: “With #RoamFromHome, we hope to help travellers continue exploring the world while so much of it, and so many of us, remain on lockdown. We’ve also heard from our operators just how challenging things have been. For that reason, we’ll waive commission on these products. We want this project to support our operator community and give those of us at home a way to keep learning and exploring.”
With the traveller in mind, the experiences are aimed at broadening horizons and emerging into new cultures.
Organised by category, the experiences include sightseeing, culture, nature and wildlife, entertainment and gastronomy across different worldwide destinations. Tours of Berlin, Ireland’s Giant Causeway, visits to Harry Potter sites and cooking classes in India and Italy are just some of the options.
Also available are some of Viator’s own content from their video library, showing off-roading thrills, river rides, penguins on the beach and much more.
Social media content across their Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn is currently dedicated to #RoamatHome. Viator is also working with operators to assist with more bookings when travel to their areas recommences.
